My condolences go to the family and friends of Rayquon Elliott, his loved ones, most in need of comfort at this time. Those who knew him as such will miss him in a much deeper sense than I could imagine, but I would like to share my own reflections on this tragedy.

When I heard the news this morning, I felt that distinct pain of loss in the pit of my stomach. Now I’m going to risk the public perception of me getting overly sentimental over someone I met only very briefly. My personal encounter with Stack Bundles lasted less than an hour, but I will forever associate it with one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. (Thank you for shouting out New Bedford, you didn’t even have to do that)

But my relationship with Stack goes back much further than that. It seems like forever ago, but it must have been fall of ’03, Clue’s Where Da Hood At? mixtape, with Joe Budden and the A-Team over the “Bang Out” beat: “Def Jam did it with Russel/ Jay did it with hustle/ 50 did it with muscle/ i’ma do all 3″ Stack was one of the few rappers worth checking mixtapes for these past few years.

The other side of this tragedy, a man’s life cut short at such an early age (24, my own), is the loss of the music that he will never get to make. As much as he had accomplished, we won’t get to see him realize his ultimate potential, whatever that may have been.

To the fans of Stack, we’re fortunate that he left behind a wealth of material. I know a lot of people that will read this aren’t familiar with his music, I would advise them to go to his myspace page, download Rap’s Makeover or any of the Riot Squad mixtapes, go to your local mixtape spot and pick up a release with his name on it, and find out what we are all missing.
